The Ponte della Maddalena is commonly identified as "Devil's Bridge." Like many undertakings that seemed impossible to posterity, the popular legend attributes the construction to the devil, which is then cheated in various ways. The legend tells of the chief mason engaged in the construction of the bridge that was very concerned about the delay in the same building.
He then struck a deal with the devil, which enabled him to finish the job in one night in exchange for the first soul who crossed the bridge. The head mason accepted and the bridge was completed. The head mason, desperate for the imminence of the heavy tribute to the Devil, he ran from the village priest, who heard the confession, devised a trick: he made a pig cross the bridge, so the devil tossed himself into the River.
